As part of celebrations for Women’s Month, HAPI-Sorsogon (the newest Chapter of HAPI!) made its first-ever event called the Basket-Making Workshop, which aimed to teach participants the art of basket-weaving, as well as to empower women to acquire new skills and knowledge. The event was held last March 27 at the Green Hillside Nest Abucay, Pilar, Sorsogon.

The event started with the arrival of the participants (made up of female youth and adults alike!) and the invited weavers Mrs. Roselyn Nopal and Mrs. Adelina Mirabuna from Sta. Fe, Pilar, Sorsogon, who were our instructors of the day.

Right off the bat, the instructors discussed the steps of weaving and it was clear that all the participants were very interested and determined to learn. After the discussion, the participants were asked to pick their own materials and weave while following the guide instructions of Mrs. Nopal and Mrs. Mirabuna.

As everyone weaved, HAPI Officers served snacks while having friendly conversations and sharing some life lessons.

The Basket-Making Workshop was executed successfully with the help of HAPI SC youth and volunteers achieving its goal to teach the participants how to improve their living and earn profits through weaving. It was indeed women empowerment before our very eyes.
