“Dare to reach out your hand into the darkness, to pull another hand into the light.”
-Norman B. Rice
Having HIV can be a source of major stress; it may challenge your sense of well-being or complicate existing mental health conditions.
Last April 11, HAPI Zambales conducted its first ever educational seminar that aims to uplift the spirits of our fellow People Living with HIV (PLHIV) in the area of Zambales. Held at Chel’s Beach Resort in Barrio Barretto, Olongapo City, the workshop is in partnership with James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital’s LEAD (League of Empowered Advocates for Development) Shelter. Through the leadership of Mr. Archimedes Domdoma, Jr. and his staff, we were able to invite 11 LEAD clients to take part the event.
Dr. John James A. Larafoster, a renowned motivational speaker in Central Luzon, facilitated the discussion. Dr. Larafoster engaged them to sing and acquaint themselves with everybody. Participants were able to share their life stories and experiences. Everyone was made to feel that we have created a safe space for them to express their feelings and emotions. Before the session ended, all of us joined in a session of meditation and self-reflection.
At the end of the day, we learned that HIV is not a death sentence. Getting it doesn’t mean that your life is over. HIV may change people’s lives, but it doesn’t keep them from living and having the best life possible.
HAPI-Zambales would like to give special thanks to Christopher L. Geake for sponsoring the seminar. Thank you for supporting our fellow LEAD Shelter clients and our advocacy of spreading HIV awareness.
