Kindness and Hope for Dumagat Children

“All kids need is a little help, a little hope, and somebody who believes in them.”

– Magic Johnson

HAPI has made it their mission to touch the lives of Dumagat children as much as they can. As such, another trip to the tribe’s homeland last June 7 resulted in laughs and smiles for the community.

The kids lit up the venue in Doña Remedios Trinidad with their enthusiasm. They received educational games, puzzles, toys, flashcards, and school supplies from various donors. During one portion of the event, they eagerly used their whiteboard from the generous HAPI donor, Aneem At-Shiyaam Ysmael, for their learning sessions.

The Dumagat children were also served a hearty snack of sopas (macaroni soup). They expressed great interest and were visibly pleased with the puzzles that they received since they rarely have these materials to play with and learn from. After the meal, many kids had to head home after bidding goodbye to each other.

HAPI extends its utmost gratitude to Kristel, a young Dumagat woman who spends her time teaching and guiding the local children when she is not working on obtaining her teaching degree. Her determination and compassion are seen and felt in the time she spends with the kids.

Mutya Valenzuela, HAPI CFO, informed us that there will be more events and future projects involving the Dumagat community. “As a matter of fact, we will travel again soon to the mountains of Doña Remedios Trinidad to visit them and bring them some medical supplies as they were lacking these things,” Valenzuela said. This next project is a big priority for HAPI as the community often travels two-three hours to get to the nearest town.

Another person who made the event possible is Jam Earl Lopez who brought the items to the village for the children.

Special thanks must be given to GO Humanity, who tirelessly offer their generosity to HAPI to make events such as this successful.

“Donors play a vital role in making projects possible by providing the necessary financial resources and support. Their contributions enable organizations and initiatives to address critical needs, implement innovative ideas, and make a positive impact on communities and societies as a whole,” Valenzuela said when asked about the importance of sponsors. She added how they also give inspiration and tremendous encouragement to HAPI.

It is important to always bring kindness and hope to children who need it the most. Inspiring them in this way will motivate them to be successful and carry the same empathic attitude for the rest of their lives.
