Free from the confines of school projects and school activities, the Juniors of HAPI gathered up for the “Balangaw Project: Module Making” event at Kapihan Sa Patio, a homey and relaxing café shop on January 11, 2020. With the supervision of Mr. John Albert Pagunsan, the goal of making a module that is efficient and effective to be used for LGBTQ+ education is dead set on their minds.
As we all know, the Juniors’ “Balangaw Project” is one of their continuing series of talks. It already took off and made it’s successful marks at the two big and diverse barangays here in Bacolod City, namely Barangay Bata and Barangay Mandalagan. Despite the events’ well-earned success, the prospect and possibility of making this event more accomplished and effective are what the Juniors think and longed for. Two places under Juniors belt they have a clear idea where are the areas that they can improve and talk about and the aspects that they are successful and will continue to do in future Balangaw Projects.
The event started with Junuis Dale Capus, Balangaw Project Head, giving his warm welcome to the bunch. He made the Juniors aware that even though they are not complete they need to see this as an advantage in milking up everyone’s ideas and suggestions.
After his message, it is Mr. Pagunsan’s turn to talk about what he knows and the experiences that he has been through. the guidance and ideas that he has given the Juniors were welcomed with eagerly nodding heads and bright smiles.
With that finished, the Juniors laid out their visions and plans. They took turns on giving their opinions while everyone who’s waiting took notes. They pointed out the successful connections they made through the commendable speakers that they invited during the two events of Balangaw Project. They inserted better activities that will make the participants more engaged and will a lasting impression on the participants.
The last part of the workshop is the Juniors, by their respective groups, researching and making the modules themselves. In this way it’s interactive and the Juniors gets to be hands-on in this event. At the end, they presented their modules to other groups where they can correct each other and have a dialogue on how to make the modules more presentable and easy to comprehend.
Eldemar Sabete, HAPI Jr. Head, finished the event with crickets singing and the sun setting in the background, reminding the Juniors that the Balangaw Project Module still has a lot more improvements to go through. That the contents and ideas still need polishing and approval but with the Juniors enthusiasm despite their busy school days, to make the Balangaw Project more colorful, they are not that far from their goal.
