Every December 5, International Volunteer’s Day is celebrated with the theme “Volunteer now for our common future.” This is why it was with great pleasure for HAPI-Green Movement to accept the invitation of the Philippine Society of Sanitary Engineers – Southern Tagalog Chapter led by Engr. Lovely Anonuevo to a tree planting in Rizal, Laguna.

For this project, we were joined by Environmental Management Unit of Pablo Borbon and Alangilan Campuses, PSSE-BatStateU Student’s Chapter, Lean ‘n Green BCO Bantagas, One Oikos Engineering, NELGIN Engineering Services, One Oikos Engineering, among others.

Tarp of the Tree Planting, Mulching, and Growing Activity

The overall goal was two-fold:

  1. To participate in a tree planting activity in and plant guyabano seedlings Tanaw de Rizal, Brgy. Tala, Rizal, Laguna, and
  2. To protect the surrounding soil of the trees from pests by scattering mulch around the trees.

One Seed at a Time

The program was hosted by Engrs. Danica Cabral and Elisha Dimayuga, PSSE-STC’s officers. Vice Mayor Antonino Aurelio opened the program by sharing his passion for serving the municipality, and knowledge of the effects of trees in the environment. He capped his opening remarks with instructions on how to properly plant the seedlings.

Afterward, the participants headed to the planting site. There, the mulch and compost were mixed by hand and shovel by the volunteers.

50 guyabano seedlings were also planted along the road.

After planting 50 guyabano seedlings, a closing program was held at Rizal Eco Center, a structure made of 30,000 recycled plastic bottles.

HAPI-Green Movement is truly honored to have collaborated in this initiative! Though saving the planet is taken for granted by many people still, we are committed to bringing humanity closer to a healthier world. In an era of climate denialism, every seed can be a lifeline.
