HAPI Hearts Day – A view from a Swiss Guest

HAPI hearts day – Valentines day 2016

Last Sunday I found myself in Alabang for the HAPI Riles Nutrition Campaign. It was the second occasion that I was able to attend a HAPI feeding and it was most certainly not my last time.
Since it was Valentines day as well, everything felt extra special and the children even gifted me with my first Valentines’ day card ever. The kids were really excited about the HAPI-hearts button pins (as was I) and the fried chicken meal, as well as the dessert consisting of fruit salad and Swiss chocolate were a complete success.

The HAPI-Feedings will soon be supplemented by food for the mind. Jahziel T. Ferrer, a very impressive woman, has big plans for Filipino children, starting with the kids in Alabang. “Through HAPI, we will provide supplemental education to the local children” she told me “because many of them do not have access to quality education we will offer it to them for free”. Jahziel is currently working on a curriculum that is anchored in Humanism. A strong focus will be on literacy and she is also planning to read them stories. For that Sunday, she prepared an assessment test to determine the starting points so that the lessons will be tailored to the children’s current levels. To assist her in the future, Jahziel will also train some volunteers.
It really was inspiring to witness amazing people like Jamie Del Rosario Martinez and Jahziel T. Ferrer spreading love and HAPI-ness.
