Fiery wings almost engulfing the rest of his sky.
From a dull blue to now a crimson red,
As it ascends in spiral leaving a charred earth beneath.”

The fifth installation of the Rekindle series happened last 20th of October at Tippy’s Bistro, in lined with Bacolod’s Masskara Festival, the bistro’s anniversary and the team turning a year leaf as well. Two blocks away from Lacson Street where the local mardi gras is, the team showcased local artists from Bacolod and Iloilo to feature their work against roughly 200 Bacolodnons who decided to stir clear from the main street’s chaos.

Another experiment from the team that will pave way to the event that succeeded. The team thought that it was about time to feature films on their repertoire and film maker friends made sure to extend help all the way from Iloilo.
From a struggling magician trying to make a living for the love of the art of magic, Poli Gonzales’ Entablado showcased stunning visual effects without compromising of getting the message across even if the film was intended to be more visual without the need for audible lines.
Elena & Pat-ud by John Rigil Kent Javier dipped more on local style of storytelling on screen and aerial drone shots, giving audiences a feel and a glimpse of beautiful Silay City. The film Elena won first place during Silay’s first Film Festival which Rekindle PH’s Ginoe Ojoy and Bencent Gohing was a part of with their entry Bahay Kubo. Rekindle PH’s J-rik Villa did the English translation for Elena when it was invited to be screened at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.
Sin-o si Mel Carreon by Mia Reyes is a documentary about Mel Carreon who ran multiple times for councilor and even mayor of Iloilo City but never won. Considered by many a nuisance candidate who may be out of his mind but others think he may actually be useful to public service. Reyes was invited to Carreon’s house for this work to give light to who he is.
Bantay Salakay by Reymundo Salao is a crime fiction film with a retro feel. This entry to the 2014 Cinekasimanwa Western Visayas Film Festival also featured Rekindle PH’s Hermz Gacho as the up-to-no-good head of the gang who thought they can get away with their full proof plan.
Dapya sang Paglaum + Maninina by T.M. Malones, the same guy who did Sino Ang Tiktik? with Dark Media Productions gave audiences first-hand front-row experiences on an elusive hunt for a snake species and the not so glamorous life along the beach.

Local artists then showcased their talents, alternating music, poetry, and art. Artsonists Rayd Espeja, Hermz Gacho, and Zenki Drilon, as always, captivated the crowd with their play of words in Hiligaynon, Tagalog, and English. Julie Moscoso, new to Rekindle, joined our poets as well. Bonsai, Kristel, Day, Lizabeth, and Nate took over the stage during open mics to share their work followed by Rekindle frequenters Caryl Pillora and Marie Bernadette Villanueva. Glucose also grazed the event with fellow artsonist GINOE. Feel good vibes with The projects to start the night. Albert Benedicto aka Binnitus got a chance to go head-to-head with another Albert, Albert Temporosa aka Aero. for a friendly rap freestyle battle after their performances. Hans Samson as always serenaded everyone to mellow the night’s ruckus before The Gutfeel jumped start another. Daniel Decena aka Penslinger, one of the artists who have been supportive of the cause since it started performed hi original compositions; taking a break from his hectic work of digital 3D modelling. Then Chino the Tawag ng Tanghalan guy with Bart Alipato, capped the night off with some soothing reggae vibes.

The headcount reached around 200 and more during the night but the ongoing Masskara made it possible for Tippy’s Bistro to cater to everyone as people came and went with plans of either do Ascension first then Masskara or vice-versa. Artsonists Mea Pabiona and Erl Burgos made sure the girls are preoccupied while their guys are busy with their mugs by setting up a make-up booth, sharing beauty tips as they do their makeovers. Yes, even guys took a swing at it.
