Food shortage and hunger are now prevalent in every corner of the world due to the Covid-19 pandemic which resulted in increasing cases of malnutrition. After 7th months of unending lockdowns and community quarantine especially in developing countries, it creates unequivocal damage not only to children who are experiencing the lack of nutritious food that could nourish them. The limitation of actions in order not to spread the virus affected everyone but in the process, the children paid the price because of this pandemic. In times of crisis, children are one of the most vulnerable sectors and have greatly affected their health.
In this trying times, what we need is for us to be more humane than ever to the rest of mankind. We will not allow this health crisis to steal the precious smiles of the Filipino kids. The Humanist Alliance Philippines, International – Northern Mindanao Chapter (HAPI – NorthMin) together with Youth Volunteers for Peace and Development Barangay Nutrition Council of Indahag, Sangguniang Kabataan of Indahag, and the Barangay Council of Barangay Indahag, joined forces to conduct the second of a 10 series of HAPI AROZZ KALDO FOR KIDS, a feeding activity targeting different areas in Region 10. The activity happened last September 11 and it was held in Sitio Calacapan, Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City.
The world is such a wonderful place, it only needs to fill in the gaps that we humans have wasted for a long time. Being a humanist and doing what a human being should do in the first place is much better than praying a thousand-folds without an assurance of this would come true or not. In this time of the pandemic, we should be HAPI (happy) that we can do good deeds even if others cannot. As we always say, “it’s better to give than to received.” Lastly, we should be always cautious since the pandemic is not yet over.
