HAPI’s Statement on the Upcoming Philippine General Election

The health and economic consequences of the global pandemic have been among the past year’s challenges. In the upcoming Philippine General Elections on 9 May 2022, we should each exercise our right and responsibility to vote.

Humanist Alliance Philippines, International (HAPI) encourages those who will be voting for the next leader of the nation to do so with the betterment of the country and the people in mind. We implore the voting public to use their right and freedom to critically analyze each candidate’s platform and stand behind the candidate that has the most integrity.

A leader who listens and consults with the people without bias, whether religious or non-religious, and ensures the advancement of secularism in the Philippines.

Use your voice and vote for a leader who does not discriminate, supports all human rights, and is vocal in their support, or openness to consider, same-sex marriage, and divorce. A leader that safeguards the environment and focuses on the conservation of the country’s resources in order to preserve the future of the people.

HAPI recognizes that the presidential election has raised a number of issues, caused great concern, and sparked much debate about the country’s future. We respect every individual’s right and freedom to choose, support, and vote for the candidate they believe will best serve the nation and the people. The Filipino humanist community is respectful of one another and recognizes the opportunity to learn through critical inquiry and self-criticism, which is founded on principles of our humanist values.

We are hopeful for a more progressive Philippines.
