Cleanliness is Dengue Awareness!

As Nutrition Month recently came to a close, HAPI-Bulacan and HAPI Junior held two concurrent events for their Dengue Awareness Campaign.

Over breakfast, HAPI-Bulacan along with HAPI CFO Mutya Valenzuela discussed the importance of the Dengue Awareness Campaign. They emphasized that organizing large-scale cleanup campaigns periodically will help stop the spread of the dengue virus.

According to the WHO, eliminating mosquito breeding places can bring down dengue infection morbidity and fatality rates to the point where it no longer poses a threat to the public’s health.

The members were given fresh vegetables to help boost their immune systems after spending long hours checking homes and buildings for any crevices where mosquitoes might hide and lay their eggs. The children were also given medications and vitamins to guard them against any illnesses that may emerge this season. Everything went smoothly, and everyone was pleased to get the vegetables and vitamins because they would benefit from using them.

Meanwhile, the HAPI Junior team in Parañaque along with HAPI Executive Secretary Steven Cross held their own dengue awareness event for the community of HAPI-Delarama.

Angie Driskell, the HAPI Junior Ambassador, took use of the occasion to briefly go over how all the subjects and tips covered might also be used to shield kids and parents from monkeypox.

It seemed like the right time to bring up the topic of monkeypox as the news of the new virus entering the Philippines was causing many conflicting emotions.

After distributing the vegetables and vitamins, the parents and guardians cleaned up the court where the meeting was held (it will likely be the venue for future HAPI events as well). As the barangay-appointed cleaners have been diligent in maintaining the cleanliness of the alleyways and walkways, parents were urged to tidy the location instead.

Before adjourning, individuals present cast ballots for chapter officers under the direction of the Executive Secretary. Overall, it was a fruitful and educational morning!

We appreciate GO Humanity supporting the Dengue Awareness Campaign as the event partner.
