My journey with the Humanist Alliance Philippines, International (HAPI) began in 2022 when I joined its Sorsogon chapter. Little did I know that this first step would spark a passion for advocacy that has grown stronger over time, eventually leading me to assume roles of greater responsibility and purpose.
This first step would spark a passion for advocacy that has grown stronger over time.
From the outset, I was drawn to HAPI’s mission of promoting humanism and critical thinking. As a social work student, the organization’s commitment to humanity resonated deeply with me. It provided the perfect platform to merge my desire for community service with my academic pursuits. In the early days of my membership, I immersed myself in various initiatives, attended events, and engaged with like-minded individuals who shared my values.
Earlier this year, I was honored to be appointed as a HAPI Youth Ambassador. To me, this title is more than just a position—it is a platform for advocating for youth. Currently, I serve as the HAPI’s Head of the People. This spokesperson role carries significant responsibility as I represent the voices of our members, ensuring that our advocacy aligns with the needs and interests of the communities we serve. I work closely with other leaders, including Ma’am Mutya Valenzuela, Mr Christian Fajutagana, and Sir Steven Cross, who have guided me as I navigate this role. Together, we communicate our goals, strengthen partnerships, and create new opportunities for growth and outreach.
Being a HAPI Scholar is not merely about holding a title—it’s about living the principles of humanism in all aspects of life. It’s about fostering critical thinking and a commitment to social justice. My academic background in Social Work has equipped me with the tools to be an effective advocate, and HAPI has given me the platform to put those skills into action.
Being a HAPI Scholar is not merely about holding a title—it’s about living the principles of humanism in all aspects of life.
Throughout my journey with HAPI, I have learned that leadership is not only about guiding others but also about serving them. It’s about creating spaces where everyone feels heard, valued, and empowered to contribute. As I continue to grow in my role, I look forward to what the future holds for both myself and the entire HAPI community.
Lastly, none of this would have been possible without the person who introduced me to HAPI—Ate Janice Buenaventura. I am also deeply grateful to Ms. M, who believes in my potential, and to all the individuals I have met along the way. Becoming a HAPI Scholar is a transformative experience, one that I believe will equip me to become a stronger advocate, leader, and individual. I am proud to be part of a movement that champions humanism and the betterment of society.
