Nourishing Young Minds: HAPI-CDO Nutritious Feeding Activity for Kids

HAPI-Cagayan de Oro successfully conducted a feeding activity at a relocation area in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City last February 26, 2023. The initiative was organized by Johnny L. Denden, HAPI-CDO Lead Convenor, in collaboration with the Phase 1 Habitat Youth Organization headed by Kerwin Goro and Lowen Pantaleon. About 100 children were present for the feeding event, the bulk of whom are at risk for malnutrition and other health issues due to their low socioeconomic position.

The organization took great care in preparing the food, ensuring that it was both nutritious and delicious. Children are not only given a meal as part of the HAPI-CDO feeding activity but they are also taught about the importance of eating healthy foods. The program’s educational component is an essential addition because it equips kids with the knowledge they need to decide what’s best for their health and well-being.

The event was a success, and the children were amazed as they enjoyed their food and learned new things. The nutritious meal they received that day would not only satisfy their hunger but also fuel their minds and bodies, enabling them to learn better and be more productive.

The high prevalence of malnutrition among children in the Philippines is a significant concern, as it can have long-lasting effects on their overall health and well-being. Children who are malnourished are more likely to fall ill, do poorly in school, and fail to reach their full potential. The high rates of malnutrition in this country are significantly influenced by poverty. The financial resources of many households aren’t sufficient for them to provide enough nutritious meals for their children.

“Together with GO Humanity, the HAPI-CDO chapter aims to share our little resources through feeding activities,” Denden said. “In this way, we can help reduce the number of children who experience malnutrition, which contributes to illnesses, and other health problems. We believe by making investments in children’s health and well-being, could help the development of a better future for the whole community.”

The HAPI-CDO feeding activity is a testament to the value of a strong sense of community and the good things that may happen when people join together for a common goal. This initiative is made possible by the selfless dedication of volunteers and the kindness of contributors, and their donations have an impact that goes well beyond the immediate advantages of the feeding activity.
