SARS-COV-2 or COVID-19 unprecedentedly is not a good news in this generation. Humanity’s movement and lives have become threatened because of this covid-19. There have been so many disasters that visited the earth for the past years. They might be natural, human-made or disease-based disasters which also caused humans unimaginable capabilities to change everything in this planet. But this covid-19 proved that we are not yet invincible to any infections, which signaled to every nation how vulnerable we truly are if the existing system would continue.
When covid-19 exploded in China, the President presented to the nation Proclamation No. 972 which placed the entire country into a health emergency which resulted to the implementation of a community quarantine to other areas in the country. While members of the Humanist Alliance Philippines International Cagayan de Oro City Chapter are connected to different youth organizations and government posts in the city, thus in this time of crisis, they functioned in their posts as others volunteered themselves in the community as Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT).
For the past weeks of the government initiatives in containing the threat of Covid-19 and helping mitigate its possible mass
transmission, the HAPI CDO Chapter responded to the call of society. The Proclamation No. 972 signaled in the City of Cagayan de Oro to act accordingly which lead to the activation of the BHERT to where other members of HAPI-CDO are a part of this response team. Since BHERT was activated, HAPI-CDO lead convenor Johnny Denden, together with other youth organization, acted
in the front line to protect and attain the needs of the community in Barangay Indahag, Cagayan de Oro City.
The frontliners did not just stop in helping the community. Thus, because of courtesy of the HAPI National Headquarters, HAPI CDO also extended its helping hand to Tabang Tri-Sikad by giving fifty (50) pieces of washable face masks good for 50 sikad drivers and 6 pieces of face shields for our front liners. The said items were received by Liam Osorio, the leading youth behind the Tabang Tri-Sikad.
In addition, the LGU-CDO through the Office for Community Affairs (OCA) also received fifty (50) pieces of washable face masks to be used during their city wide monitoring activities. The HAPI CDO is not yet done because it also contributed to Barangay Indahag
one ( 1 ) sack of rice for the feeding activities in the barangay and fifty (50) pieces of face masks for the youth volunteers.
In this crisis, small contributions do give tremendous effects to people who are in need of it. Thus, HAPI-CDO, together with the Youth Volunteers for Peace and Development (YVPD), continued its efforts in the form of donating blood to the Regional Office 10 of the Philippine Red Cross. The activity was a success as three (3) of its partner members, including myself, successfully donated blood for those in need of it during this health crisis.
Therefore, all of the accomplishments would not have realized if not for the Headquarters of HAPI starting the call for a mobilization which translated to support for all the chapters’ endeavors. Meanwhile, the crisis is not yet done. With the people’s concentrated efforts and energy in helping the society, people will succeed and end this crisis soon
TO ALL FRONTLINERS OUT THERE and to society in general, humanism is not yet done doing great in this planet. Be safe and restore humanity by doing good when others cannot.
