HAPI Zambales with ZCN riders Coastal Clean Up
“The single biggest threat to our planet is the destruction of habitat and along the way loss of precious wildlife. We need to reach a balance where people, habitat, and wildlife can coexist—if we don’t, everyone loses…one day.”
—Steve Irwin
HAPI Zambales, together with the Zambales Cycling Network (ZCN) riders, participated in the Zambales Coastal Clean Up Drive last May 22, accomplishing their 1st Green Movement activity.
23 other participants joined the said activity. The coastline of Barangay La Paz, San Narciso where Pawicare is situated—the only Pawikan Hatchery in the the province—was chosen for the activity. With 23 other participants, the clean-up drive was also in celebration of the World Turtle Day.
The objectives of the coastal cleanup were to engage people from our province to remove trash and debris from beaches, waterways and other water bodies; to identify the sources of the litter; to change behaviors which cause pollution; and to raise awareness on the extent of the marine debris problem.
After collecting as much garbage as we were able to gather, we sorted the items and tallied every piece. HAPI Zambales officers are in talks of a next clean up with ZCN. They will try to schedule another event once the COVID restrictions eased.
Many thanks to our dear friend Christopher L. Geake for the full sponsorship of the event. Thank you for your generosity, and continued support to HAPI’s advocacies.
This is just one of the many events we do in HAPI.
With your empathy, compassion and generosity, we will do more to save the environment.
