How HAPI Impacted Me (#3)
An essay series featuring retrospectives by HAPI members, staff, and leaders in celebration of its 8th Anniversary.
Having different beliefs from most people my age, I have always been considered an outcast, or worst, left out. Although I always worked hard to achieve whatever it is that I have up to this point, there was a time when I wanted to fit into a crowd that had different ideals to mine.
I grew up breaking traditional boundaries and challenging ancient norms that did not adhere to the changes of time. I began going into conversations with peers when it hit me – I never was an outcast, I was just with the wrong crowd.
When I was introduced to Humanist Alliance Philippines, International (HAPI) by a good friend, it changed my life completely. What I did not understand well before HAPI, I fully understand and advocate for now.
I was introduced to humanism, which in turn introduced me to numerous opportunities, ideas, and relationships. Humanism magnified the principles that I had always fought for.
As HAPI celebrates its eighth year in this ever-changing world, I rejoice. I am completely happy that there is a family always willing to extend a hand to our community.
I am HAPPY that I am HAPI. 😉
