HUMANISM in a nutshell

Humanism is quite a new concept in the Philippines. A few atheists have been propagating their ignorance about the meaning of humanism. They think humanism is all about giving, charity or humanitarianism.
As atheists, they could have done their own research, but, they’d rather paint HAPI a different color of their ignorance. Don’t we want evidence or proof at all times?
We have crowdsourced the meaning of humanism online, in the HAPI main general page,  in their own words: no cheating, no copying, no googling allowed.
Let us see what they have  posted (verbatimly).

Lex De La Torre Humanism places value in the welfare and advancement of the human race above everything else.
Miker Rivero Being humane without being a doormat.
Noreen Aira Camacho Humanism is the belief that we don’t need belief of any deity to spread goodness on humanity. We are capabble of morality
Robert Howes I think the essence of humanism is materialism in the philosophical sense. There is nothing beyond the natural, so we rely on our innate goodness and our ability to co-operate. We do not need a supernatural inspector to watch over us.
Danielle Hill Humanism in 4 words:
1. Not.
2. Being.
3. An.
4. Asshole

Teza Ramos I am Catholic, but I know that I am a Humanist too. For me humanism is doing to others what you want others to do unto you, because they deserve it as much as you do. For me Humanism cannot be contained by the word secularism, it transcends beyond..way beyond.
 Dexter Lira The
idea that responsible human beings can figure out how to live in a way
that is fair and ultimately promotes the well-being of everyone else.
There is no need to appeal to religious authority or supernatural
presences, or an outside-imposed rigid morality
that by its own definition cannot change. We work out our transactions
(morality) assuming that the other guy is a person just like us. A
Humanist can be as sappy or as ruthless as a situation requires.

Khadija Yahya humanism is being true to oneself.
 Valentina Medusa Pao Kindness

Yoyoy Cala Humanism upholds the goodness of men even if we are marginalized by religion, belief, race, culture and politics… it is borderless!
It is also a liberating consciousness for humanity against all forms of fear (tyranny and oppression).

Ellis Dean Hovey I’m gonna be lazy, cheat & copy paste: hu·man·ism
ˈ(h)yo͞oməˌnizəm

outlook or system of thought attaching prime importance to human rather
than divine or supernatural matters. Humanist beliefs stress the
potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human
needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems.

Lei Angel Humanism
to me is empowerment and enlightenment ; the belief that human beings
are not only their own heroes, but each other’s. It is doing good
because it is what people deserve rather than what theology dictates.
Humanism is believing in one’s and each other’s worth. It is empowering others and oneself, not enabling or becoming a doormat. Humanism
is knowing you aren’t perfect–it is acknowledging that we have
weaknesses and that there are things in the world we have no control
over, but still trying to engage in a genuine dialogue and making a
genuine effort to effect change.
Madhukar Kulkarni Every atheist should read the Universal Declarations of Universal Human Rights.

for me, is believing that the only way for us to acheive peace and
harmony in this world is to allow other people to grow and acheive the
best quality of life they could possibly have.

Jahziel Tayco Ferrer Humanism is putting humanity and human rights before any creed or dogma.

Marco Mendoza Human welfare
(Life & Love) and the understanding of our home environment is the center of my focus and empathy. I see a brotherhood of mankind unnecessarily separated by ignorance and lack of empathy. My Humanism is the connectedness of the greater family. My enemies are tactics of division, manipulation, and power that seeks to dehumanize our lives and destroy our home planet.

Benru Ramesis For me humanism is giving and sharing what you have to others without expecting anything in return, and preparing this world to a better one for the future of our next generation, free from religion, free from nationality, races and beliefs..
