‘Bake’ a Better World: HAPI’s Zambales Bread-Giving Drive

“While earning your daily bread, be sure you share a slice with those less fortunate.”

At the start of the COVID pandemic last year, many of our fellowmen were unable to work and provide for their families. The depressing situation due to the hard lockdown led us to initiate our bread donation drive.

Together with the help of Rabang’s Bakery and financial support from our friends and relatives, my partner Garry and I were able to provide loaves of bread to various recipients. Our bread-giving drive started mid-April and continued throughout the many months since then.

Our first two donations were given to the Aeta communities at the Cawag Resettlement Area in Subic, Zambales. Succeeding bread donations were distributed to frontliners and patients of San Marcelino District Hospital (San Marcelino, Zambales), James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital (Olongapo City) and Pres. Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital (Iba, Zambales).

We were also able to send hundreds of bread packs to the typhoon-hit Cagayan Region during the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses. On our 13th and latest bread giving last month, HAPI Scholars sponsored the hundreds of bread packs distributed to the Aeta community in Sitio Lahong, Cabangan, Zambales on December 25.

The recent pandemic taught us that wherever there is a human in need, there is an opportunity for kindness and a chance to make a difference. And with us joining HAPI, we can extend our help to more people, for the betterment of humanity. Together we can ‘bake’ a better world, one bread at a time.
