This past 18th and 19th February, the HAPI Bulacan Reading Room held two programs for two separate age groups led by HAPI CFO Mutya Valenzuela. The lecture focused on being kind to our world and how to properly care for it. The kids utilized their creativity and craftsmanship to deliver the concepts.
The kids engaged in a game that sparked discussions on how the environment supports us and how we may return some of that support. Afterward, they were instructed on how to cut back on energy use and trash, including how to use the Three R’s to save natural resources and landfill space. This Reading Room exercise not only demonstrates the children’s artistic talent but also teaches them the value of protecting the environment.
Educating children about the environment can help them create long-term behaviors that will stay with them as they grow. Even little actions have far-reaching consequences over time. Set a good example and make sure your children understand why each of these behaviors is necessary. Explain that turning off the lights not only saves electricity but also improves air quality by reducing the amount of labor that air-polluting power plants have to undertake. Explain how the whole life cycle of a plastic bottle consumes enormous quantities of fossil fuels, which contribute to climate change, and how your reusable bottle keeps plastics out of landfills and takes us closer to a circular economy.
“Seeing these kids engaged in protecting the environment and utilizing their talents to do so warms my heart,” Valenzuela added.
Youngsters who have this understanding are more inclined to think about how their activities influence the environment and come up with strategies to change things for the better. The environment around us is not only our home but everything that keeps us alive. The food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe, our shelter, and more, help us to survive. Therefore, caring for the environment is something that should be inherent in us and is important for our own survival.
