Halloween season is one of the most anticipated annual events globally. More than just a time for adults to enjoy horror movies and spooky vibes, it is a day for children to have fun and live out the fantasy of being their favorite fictional characters.
Two HAPI chapters organized enjoyable and interactive Halloween events for local kids, allowing them to experience the magic of trick-or-treating.
HAPI-Alabang held a fun-filled event for the kids last November 1, where 50 children dressed in their scariest and cutest outfits to celebrate Halloween. The kids got to decorate their little space in the home of Ms. Jhing Dedicatoria, Lead Convenor of HAPI-Alabang. Aside from putting up signs they created themselves, they also enhanced their costumes through their budding makeup skills.
The kids were then handed snacks and candies as part of their trick-or-treating. The HAPI volunteers also joined in the fun by actively engaging the participants.
The successful celebration was made possible with the help of Ms. Shiony, Ms. Baby, and Ms. Cyrine. With their efforts, the HAPI-Alabang kids were able to create precious new memories.
Another Halloween celebration occurred at HAPI-Delarama when AJ Delarama, HAPI Junior Ambassador, invited the little ones of HAPI Junior last October 27. There was an enthralling magic show and snacks served for trick-or-treating. The children also showed out by donning their favorite characters’ costumes, with one of them being awarded Best Costume.
Ms. AJ prepared another day full of activities last November 3 wherein they discussed the history of Halloween, including its Roman influence and Christian adaptation. This taught the kids the real origins of Halloween, which was particularly important given that we live in a religious country with misconceptions about the holiday.
In the next part of the event, the children were taught how to share resources through compromise. They also learned the value of properly following instructions by baking delicious cupcakes that they then decorated and took home. The HAPI Junior kids also played team games that required them to practice better communication and teamwork.
As this was the first Halloween celebration for several of the kids, they were noticeably buzzing with excitement. They were encouraged to dress up and create characters based on their costumes, then tasked to present their characters as a way to practice their presentation and speaking skills. The top three characters won prizes in the end.
The eventful day ended with a movie and Halloween-themed dinner wherein the kids made their own pizza to eat while watching the movie.
These two Halloween events by HAPI-Alabang and HAPI-Delarama would not have been possible without the sponsors and most importantly, the volunteers who worked tirelessly to create a magical and fun day for the kids. Meaningful memories were made.
“Halloween is not just about putting on a costume, but it’s about finding the imagination and costume in ourselves.”
