Children are one of the most vulnerable sectors in our society when there is a crisis, especially in a developing country. We experience that one of the common problems in times of pandemic is food security.

Families are now bothered on how to feed their empty stomachs due to this crisis and where to get food to fill in the table. In these trying times, all efforts are considered as gold because we need to help each other to rise from this crisis. Even the craziest ideas we could think of are now welcome. Humanist Alliance Philippines International – Northern Mindanao ( HAPI-NorthMin ) Chapter together with various organization in Cagayan de Oro and in Barangay Indahag namely, Pinas Forward (PF), Sangguniang Kabataan ( SK ) of Indahag, Youth Volunteers for Peace and Development (YVPD) and Barangay Council lead by Chairwomen Jocelyn N. Dahino formed a joint project for the children of Indahag. The project is “Pa Champorado Kai Kid”, is a series of feeding activity covering all the sitio of Indahag. The project kickoff in Caritas Village Poblacion, Indahag last June 7, 2020.

Pa Champorado Kai Kid successfully served its delicious Champorado to almost 200 Kids in Caritas Village. The next wave was conducted last June 14, 2020, in Barbosa Compound, Indahag. The activity was possible because of the presence of almost 50 strong volunteers which has the same goal, to serve humanity. According to Indahag Kagawad Kris John “Tope” Rivera, “It is more than the champorado. We are actually sharing with these kids the value of generosity and sacrifice for others. They will remember us not because of the champorado but because of the feeling that they were not left behind.” He is also the Ground Coordinator of Pinas Forward in Mindanao. HAPI-NorthMin Chapter will not stop findings ways to contribute to the process of healing as one and will always look for more ways to continue to serve the community in the best way possible especially in these trying times.
