There is no doubt that our farmers should be considered our heroes even if they lack the capes and masks that our fictional superheroes have. Farmers deserve all the credit in the world as they continuously feed not just their families or even their local community but also the Philippines as a whole. They are the foundation of a nourished country.
In honor of all Filipino farmers’ sacrifices and sweat, HAPI-Sorsogon warmly held its project called HAPI Farmers Day last May 20. The project’s objective was to give away hammocks to more than 40 farmers in Abucay, Pilar, Sorsogon.
With the combined efforts of HAPI officials and HAPI volunteers, the Farmers Day successfully left our beneficiaries with genuine smiles and chants of neverending gratitude. It was overwhelming to see local farmers express their words of thanks. “This is so pure, I can’t believe that there are still people who appreciate us despite the prejudices that most people have about us,” said one of the farmers, tearing up.
The project was fun, noble and even with a relatively simple initiative, it displayed tremendous appreciation for all the farmers’ sacrifices.
