HAPI Nabs Two Awards from the 2020-21 Heart of Humanism Awards

Humanist Alliance Philippines, International (HAPI) was honored with two awards by Foundation Beyond Belief (FBB) in their annual Heart of Humanism Awards last July 26.

For the second year in a row and third time ever, HAPI was bestowed with the Humanism at Work award for donating the most volunteer hours among members of the Beyond Belief Network within the past year. In their official awards post, FBB lauded HAPI’s relief and emergency response to calamities such as Typhoon Quinta, the Taal volcano eruption, the coronavirus pandemic, as well as other activities by the organization.

Additionally, HAPI also won Photo of the Year for the below picture, taken during HAPI’s relief operations for Typhoon Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses. This award is voted for by members of the FBB community.

Mutya Valenzuela, HAPI Chief Financial Officer and the organization’s representative during the virtual ceremony, shared her excitement over the achievements. “The moment I received the email from Wendy Webber of FBB about HAPI winning two awards, it made me so happy and proud. How can you not? Winning the ‘Humanism at Work’ and ‘Photo of the Year’ awards means only one thing: we have served our purpose (and served it the best way we can). When people recognize our hard work, all the difficulties we’ve been through just simply fade away.”

Javan Poblador, HAPI Chief Executive Officer, also expressed his gratitude. “I am extremely proud of HAPI, especially the people who work relentlessly behind the scenes and create this ripple of change in the grassroots community,” he said in a statement. “The award is only the cherry on top; the real celebration is in the impact we have created on the people we have worked with and continue to do so.”

The Heart of Humanism Awards is held annually by FBB to recognize outstanding service among member organizations as well as those individuals who make extraordinary contributions to humanism. HAPI has previously been recognized by the Heart of Humanism Awards, having received the Humanism at Work award in 2017 and 2020. Jamie del Rosario-Martinez of HAPI Kids-Alabang also received the Most Valuable Volunteer Award in 2018.
