Last February 4, 2023, the kids of HAPI-Alabang’s Reading Room made Valentine’s Day cards containing kind messages for beneficiaries of the chapter’s food security event. As an extension of their lesson on kindness, this activity focused on being kind to people whom they do not know but are in dire need of compassion.
After the cards were collected, the team then moved on to planning their distribution of 50 vegetable packs to local families living near the railroad tracks in makeshift homes. These families are considered unsheltered as they live in shanties in an area that could easily be removed at any time by authorities. Along with the vegetable packs, 25 feminine hygiene packs donated by HAPI Junior were distributed to young girls who are having difficulty buying the products regularly.
The young volunteers also engaged in conversations with the people hoping to get to know them better. The recipients of the items expressed their gratitude and were happy to learn more about HAPI. This motivated the volunteers to plan more projects that could benefit the unsheltered again in the near future.
This project was part of GO Humanity’s food security program. We are grateful for their continuous support and for making this event possible.
