About 120 prisoners on probation and parole of Talisay City in Cebu were educated about Republic Act 9003 known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, and participated in lectures on climate change and global warming. Culminating the event was a workshop on solar lamp assembly.

Initiating the workshop, Sustainable Energy and Enterprise Development for Communities (Seed4Com) is known among disaster-hit, poverty-stricken areas and rural communities to introduce renewable and clean energy. They provide skills training program for livelihood, including skills training for the installation and maintenance of clean energy solutions, and facilitate establishment of social enterprises to make the communities become self-sustaining.

Eco-Tabang (“eco-help” or “eco-outreach”) is a sustainable energy outreach program of University of San Carlos that aims to distribute solar day and night lamps to the most needy of families. Twenty solar day lamps were made from the workshop and turned over to the community, while four solar night lamps were donated to HAPI Homes by Eco-Entrepreneurial Green Communities, Inc. (EEGCI).

Special thanks go to Dann Diez, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Seed4Com, for making this partnership happen. He is also the Co-Founder of Let’s Do It Philippines where our very own Green Movement Director, Arturo Alvarez, is National Program Director.

Openness to collaboration has led humanists to more opportunities that inspire goodness while promoting use of renewable energy. Because of its Green Movement, HAPI is now a force to be reckoned with in terms of environmental care.
