Last May 17, 2019 as we celebrate the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia , and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), SPARK launched a campaign as #EndRainbowViolence #RespetoNaman. This is to enlighten us about sexual harassments, discrimination and violence experienced by the LGBTQ community. The said campaign had partnership with Embassy of Canada in the Philippines and Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium. When I arrived at the event, His Excellency Ambassador Michel Goffin is providing his speech and was followed by Honorable Senator Risa Hontiveros. The event was finished by cutting of the ribbon on the gallery where the stories collected by SPARK was featured and displayed. The gallery part suprised me since I was expecting only a video clip compilation of stories of people who had shared their experiences.
I was personally approached by First Secretary Dr Koenraad Du Pont asking how was the event and how am I enjoying the after party. I also did met new people and what amazed me was meeting the allies who have showed their support and alloted their busy schedule to join their first pride event.
Last thing was after party was cool and relaxing and you’ll get to know with nice and kind people. The free complimentary beer and fries added in lighting up the event.
All in all the campaign event was successful in its purpose to spread awareness to promote acceptance and to eradicate violence.
I’m HAPI to represent HAPI and participate on the said campaign as being an advocate about equality and a belief of we have the responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good. Let’s unite as we continue to strive on pursuing our goals.
