Bi+ Awareness Conference 2019 with Side B Philippines

Bi+ Awareness Conference 2019 with Side B Philippines

Quezon City, Philippines
September 23, 2019

In line with the International Bi Visibility Day 2019 Celebration, Side B Philippines presented the very first “Bisexual Awareness Conference 2019” last Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Inner Lobby of Quezon City Hall.

Typically celebrated on the 23rd of September, Bi Visibility Day is a call to recognize and celebrate bisexual history, bisexual community and culture, and all the bisexual people in their lives. Side B Philippines is considered as the only Bi Collective in the Philippines aiming to foster more information about the silent B in LGBTQ+

There are many myths about bisexuality and so this conference aimed to debunk those myths so people would better understand bisexuality as a human nature and SOGIE category.

The aim of this conference is to provide more information about bisexuality in the Philippines and also to debunk the common myths associated with bisexuality. There is no question about their existence. It is just now a matter of educating people, to highlight biphobia and to help people find the bisexual community if they do belong in that group.

The Bi+ Awareness Conference 2019 was sponsored by the Quezon City Local Government under Mayor Joy Belmonte and the ASEAN SOGIE Caucus with keynote speakers Ryan Silverio, ASC Regional Coordinator, and Councilor Mayen Juico who penned the Gender-Fair Ordinance which was implemented in Quezon City since November 28, 2014.
