How HAPI Impacted Me (#6)
An essay series featuring retrospectives by HAPI members, staff, and leaders in celebration of its 8th Anniversary.
I was only 17 years old when I stumbled across HAPI. I was immature, clueless, and just getting by with my life. Humanism or being a humanist was something I didn’t have an inkling about.
In a way, HAPI became my guide and avenue in learning about the world and myself. Being involved with HAPI taught me how to manage my time, open my mind to possibilities, and meet people from diverse backgrounds. The organization renewed my sense of purpose and my hope for the world’s future.
I would have never experienced these things if I did not give HAPI a chance to be part of my life four years ago. To put it simply, HAPI gave me a chance. A chance to know the world, a chance to set up events that are focused on people’s welfare, and a chance to prove to myself that I can amount to something beyond the glamour of academic achievements and high expectations.
