HAPI is a non-partisan organization committed to the humanist ideals of free thought, critical judgment, secularism, democracy, and human rights. We condemn all forms of dictatorship, and threats thereof, then and now. We stand for liberty and freedom to express, for civic equality and human rights, for due process and rule of law, for the care of our natural resources, both in land and on bodies of water, and for the use of logic and reason, never coercion or force, to solve pertinent issues. This election season, HAPI enjoins Filipino humanists to exercise their democratic right to suffrage responsibly, and elect officials who espouse values the global humanist movement stands by, as set forth in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the IHEU Amsterdam Declaration. We call upon them to reject herd mentality and to uphold these values as non-negotiables, not to be traded away for any campaign promise. Most importantly, we call upon all voters to remember that suffrage is only one part of the battle for a better life. The election day and the election of new leaders will not necessarily change the country; these people are not messiahs – the task of changing things for the better still falls, at the end of the day, to the individual.
